Blogging update: how the first 3 months have gone

Blogging update

My last blogging update was 2 months ago after I had been blogging for a month. Since then, I don’t know where the time has gone, it’s just flown by. Quite a lot has changed since then, most notably that I am no longer pregnant, baby Austin is now here, arriving on March 19th.

Unsurprisingly since baby Austins arrival, it has been more difficult to keep up with the blog. Not just with writing and publishing posts but with the promoting and social media side of things. I had hoped that I could make use of the time I am up feeding during the night to keep with everything blog related. However so far I have found that I am so tired I can’t concentrate at all.

Prior to Austins arrival, I did do some major changes to the blog though. With the help and support of my much more technically minded husband, I bite the bullet and went self hosted. Thankfully it wasn’t as tricky as I thought it might be. However I do think it would have been easier to just go self hosted from the beginning, especially as cost wise it is very reasonable.

I also opted to get a logo design done for the blog, which I love. I’m still working on playing around with layout/widgets/plug ins etc.

During March (before Austin arrived)

I worked really hard to get my blog more out there, I joined and got involved in Facebook group threads, linked up etc. This was really quite time consuming and I’m not sure I will be able to keep up this level going forward. Well I already haven’t been able to keep this up during April. Having said that, all the effort did pay off, Β as I saw a massive rise in my blog views and visitors. Along with a continuing slow but steady rise in social media following.

When I do actually sit down to write posts, I really enjoy it but I have found that I feel like I haven’t got time to write them properly. This is sometimes making them feel like a bit of a chore. I Have to remind myself I am doing this for my enjoyment. At times I feel there is pressure to get blog posts out, join linkies and Facebook threads everyday etc. I Feel this pressure because I compare myself to others (only natural) and I want to be good at it and I’m competitive. But I don’t want blog to become another thing I HAVE to do, I have tons of things in my life like that already. I want it remain something I want to do and enjoy doing it!

Felt very proud with my first ranking in Tots100. Tots100 is an index of UK parent bloggers . I ranked at 1417 this past month. This probably doesn’t seem massively impressive, especially to other bloggers. But it is my first ranking and it’s out of close to 10,000 parent blogs, so I’m really chuffed with this!

Goals for next 3 months

  • just do what I can and be happy with that

  • when I do have some time, even if it’s only 20 mins don’t procrastinate, just start writing

  • do a guest post for another blogger

  • work on website itself (plugins etc)and overall appearance

  • do some product review posts

Hopefully I can achieve these in the next 3 months. I will update again in 3 months when I will have been blogging for 6 months!

If anyone has any advice re blogging or best plugins to use? etc they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  1. I also set goals for my blogging and publish them – I think it offers clarity on what you need to do, but I do think us bloggers put a lot of pressure on ourselves sometimes (me included). Love reading other people’s goals though – keep up the FABULOUS work!
